Transformer Cake

Practice Cakes, Fun Cakes and Cookies

Cakes of Beginner & Intermediate Classes from Amy Malone

Hello Kitty for Nadia

Chocolate Dipped Oreos

These were from a chocolate class I took from Amy Malone.

Mini Cakes 4" x 4"

I made individual cakes for each person at a birthday celebration at work.  I was new at fondant, so I just had fun playing around with my new cutters.

Purple Birthday Cake

Grace helped me make her own birthday cake.  She loved purple, so we used two different tones of purple.  The colors in my picture don't show the true color of purple that it was.

Big Ugly Christmas Sweater Cake

There was a Big Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest at our school and church for the employees, and I was asked to make a cake for the festive occasion.  Here's my interpretation of a sweater cake.  The tag is real, non-edible from my sewing supplies.  The cake was a red velvet with browned butter cream cheese frosting with my homemade toffee bits.

Emily's 18th Birthday Cake

We celebrated Emily's 18th birthday with a purple paisley and polka dot cake.  I covered the base with a leaf green colored fondant with inset pieces.  Since it was three stacks high, I had to make three different flavors of cakes and fillings.  The top was orange cake with lavender and orange lavender buttercream filling.  The second one was a chocolate cake with butterfinger buttercream filling.  The bottom layer was a white cake with two fillings:  chocolate pan frosting with butterfinger buttercream.  Yum!  Due to a rainy day, the layers were sliding around.  Too much humidity in the air.

Mutliple Birthdays Purse Cake

There were six of us gals who had birthdays close together, so I made one cake for all of us.  What could be better than a purse cake for all the ladies?  The gum paste bow and handle kept falling off.  This was my first purse cake, but definitely not my last.  I have other designs I want to try.  This cake was 6 layers high.

Chargers/Boise State Broncos Cake

I incorporated two football teams into this cake--San Diego Chargers and Boise State Broncos.  I had three different cakes and fillings.  Red velvet with cream cheese frosting; banana with caramel frosting; and chocolate & vanilla cake with chocolate pan frosting.  I almost gave up caking on this one when I was frosting it, but in the end, it all worked out.

This was a "cheater" cake.  I used a plain white Costco cake, had the picture printed on edible paper, and just added a border, dots on the border and writing.  Earl and Rafael are men who are part of our church's Peru Mission team.  They celebrated their birthdays together during a Peru team meeting.  I found the picture online of Peruvian children.

Swimmythefish Cake

Swimmythefish, a beta fish that has lasted 1 1/2 years now, received his very own first birthday party, complete with a cake just for the guests.  He did like the view, although he didn't have any cake.  My friend Micah, age 7, requested a birthday party for Swimmythefish, so his family and I obliged.  It was a fun party complete with games like Go Fish, we ate Swedish gummy fish, fish cheese crackers and opened silly fish toys.

Lynsie's 18th Birthday Cake

This was a cake for Kallie's friend Lynsie as she turned 18.  At first I thought the pink was a little too bright for me (believe it or not, I actually don't like pink--and this blogspot has a pink background!), but as I look at this cake, I like it.  This was my first time creating a zebra pattern and covering the board (it was a huge piece of glass that is a lazy susan turntable) in fondant.  It was a fun cake to make.  My favorite flower is gerbera daisy, so it was fun making these out of gum paste.  The "L" and "18" were fondant cut outs with black sanding sugar on top.

Chocolate Mice

I adore my cake teacher, Amy Malone.  She's been teaching cake classes for over 30 years.  She's amazing!  She tickled my heart one day as I was at one of her classes.  I walked away from decorating my cake, and when I turned around, there was an adorable chocolate mouse staring at me!  Of course I had to make my own.  I experimented with white and brown mice.  The ingredients are cherries with stems, Hershey's Kisses, almond slices, melted chocolate, and icing or chocolate for eyes and noses.  What fun these little sweet critters brought us!  I had one on everyone's plate at Thanksgiving with their names on cookies.

Aslan - Chronicles of Narnia Cake

This cake was testing my patience (which I have none to begin with anyway).  It tasted really yummy--peanut butter and chocolate marble cake with crushed peanut butter cups and chocolate pan frosting.  I invited an artist teacher friend of mine to come help with the design of the cake.  I had no idea how it would turn out.  After three attempts at the face (taking off the first two layers), it finally was looking like a lion.  This was for Cynthia's 40th birthday.  I used multiple colors of buttercream to get the depth of the mane--browns, tans, creams, blacks and oranges.
